Hey everyone. Joshua here, 22, from Miami. Just graduated from University of Miami with a degree in computer science. Single, no commitments, no mortgage, no dependants — arguably the best possible time to make aliyah and I know it.
My parents are not making aliyah — they are settled in Miami and supportive but not moving. My grandparents on my mother's side are Israelis who emigrated to the US in the 1980s — so I have Israeli heritage, some Israeli cousins and reasonable conversational Hebrew from speaking it with my grandparents growing up.
Applied through NBN and the process has been fast — clean documents, Jewish by birth, relatively young. Interview was last month. Waiting for the mazal tov letter.
Tel Aviv is the obvious target for a 22 year old software engineer. I have no illusions about it being easy — building a life from scratch in a new country at 22 with no family there is a significant undertaking. But I am genuinely excited rather than nervous which I think is the right energy for this.
Anyone who made aliyah young and alone in their early twenties — what was the first year actually like?
