G'day everyone. Ben here, 29, from Melbourne. My Jewish connection is through my father — he is Jewish by birth, I was raised with Jewish identity, had my bar mitzvah and have been an active community member. My mother is not Jewish. So I qualify through the grandchild/child route but will not be registered as Jewish in the population registry — I understand this and have read the pinned post carefully.
I am a software developer — React and Node primarily — which should be very accessible in Tel Aviv. My Hebrew is essentially zero beyond bar mitzvah Hebrew. Ulpan is obviously the first priority.
Applying through the ZFA in Melbourne. My main documentation challenge is proving my father's Jewish identity through the generational chain — his parents were from Poland and the documentation is limited. Working through the Yad Vashem database and the Australian Jewish genealogical records.
Single, no commitments. Making aliyah genuinely for the right reasons — a deep sense that Israel is where I am supposed to be — rather than running from something. That distinction matters to me.
Would love to connect with other Australian olim and with anyone who has navigated the documentation challenge for Polish Jewish ancestry.
