What Is a Teudat Zehut?​

The Teudat Zehut is your Israeli identity card issued by Misrad HaPnim (Ministry of Interior).

It includes:

• Your name (Hebrew and English)
• 9-digit ID number
• Date of birth
• Place of birth
• Marital status
• Address (once updated)

You’ll use it for everything in Israel — from opening a bank account and signing a lease, to visiting the doctor, voting, or registering your kids for school.

When Do I Get It?​

You do not receive your Teudat Zehut at the airport.

You must:

1. Schedule an appointment with Misrad HaPnim
2. Go in person after receiving your Teudat Oleh
3. Bring the required documents (listed below)

Tip: Appointments may take weeks — book yours ASAP after arrival using the MyVisit app or gov.il.

What to Bring to the Appointment​

• Teudat Oleh (from the airport or Misrad HaAliyah)
• Valid foreign passport
• Israeli phone number and address
• Marriage certificate (if married)
• Birth certificates for children (if applicable)
• 2 passport-style photos (some offices take them digitally)

Note: In some cases, Misrad HaPnim will ask for apostilles or translations of foreign documents.

Children’s Teudat Zehut​

Children also receive a Teudat Zehut (with your name as a parent listed).
They must be present at the appointment.

Bring:

• Child’s foreign passport
• Birth certificate
• Teudat Oleh
• Both parents’ IDs (if possible)

Updating Your Address​

You must update your Israeli address at Misrad HaPnim — this determines where you vote, receive bills, and register for local services.

Bring a rental contract or signed letter from your host (with ID copy).

Common Issues​

No available appointments – keep checking MyVisit daily
Incorrect name spelling – request a correction immediately
Missing documents – they may send you home
No Teudat Oleh – get this from Misrad HaAliyah first
