Welcome to AliyahForum!
This thread covers everything you need to know about the medical requirements before Aliyah and how to navigate the Israeli healthcare system after you arrive.

๐Ÿ” Before Aliyah โ€“ Medical Considerations

When applying for Aliyah, medical issues can sometimes impact approval or affect your benefits.

You may be asked to provide:

  • ๐Ÿงพ A medical letter from your doctor explaining any chronic illness or disability
  • ๐Ÿ’Š Details of any prescription medication you take
  • ๐Ÿง  Mental health documentation if relevant to your case
  • ๐Ÿ’ก Translations of medical records (if needed by Misrad HaPnim or your Aliyah office)
๐Ÿ“Œ Israel does not deny Aliyah for all health issues โ€” but the government may assess whether youโ€™ll need full-time care or pose a financial burden on the system.

If in doubt, consult a professional (e.g. Easy Aliyah) to help present your case clearly.

๐Ÿ›ฌ After Aliyah โ€“ Israeli Healthcare 101

๐ŸŽ‰ Good news: New Olim receive free health insurance for their first 6โ€“12 months, depending on your age and status.

๐Ÿฅ Step 1: Choose a Kupat Cholim (Health Fund)

There are 4 main providers:

  • ๐ŸŸข Clalit
  • ๐Ÿ”ต Maccabi
  • ๐ŸŸก Leumit
  • ๐ŸŸ  Meuhedet
Each one offers: โœ… Family doctors
โœ… Specialists
โœ… Labs and pharmacies
โœ… Online portals and apps

Ask locals or Olim in your area which one is best for your city or needs.

๐Ÿงพ Step 2: Register for a Health Fund

To register, youโ€™ll need:

  • โœ… Teudat Oleh
  • โœ… Teudat Zehut (or temporary ID)

๐Ÿ’Š Bringing Medication to Israel

โœ”๏ธ You may bring a reasonable personal supply (with prescription)
โœ”๏ธ Bring a doctorโ€™s letter listing medications and diagnoses
โœ”๏ธ Medications should be in original packaging
โœ”๏ธ Israel may not have the exact same brand โ€” always check with a local doctor upon arrival

๐Ÿง  Mental Health Support

Mental health services are available in all Kupot.

๐Ÿง‘โ€โš•๏ธ Speak to your GP to get a referral
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Services are typically in Hebrew, but some English-speaking therapists are available privately
๐Ÿ’ฐ Therapy is partially subsidized โ€” private care is also widely available
