Thinking about making Aliyah later in life?
Already retired and making the move?
Whether you're in your 50s, 60s, 70s or beyond — this thread is for older Olim to connect, ask questions, and share experiences.

Many people choose to make Aliyah during retirement or after their children are grown. This journey can be incredibly meaningful, but it comes with its own set of practical and emotional considerations.

đź’¬ Discussion Starters:

  • What motivated you to make Aliyah now?
  • Are you planning to live near family, in a retirement community, or independently?
  • How are you navigating healthcare (Kupat Cholim), housing, or Hebrew learning?
  • What have been the biggest challenges — and blessings?

đź“ť Please share:

  • Your age or stage of life (if you’re comfortable!)
  • Where you’re coming from
  • Where in Israel you're planning to live (or already living)
  • Tips or lessons learned during the process
  • Any services, resources, or support networks you’ve found helpful

🧳 Example:

“Hi, I’m Ruth, 67, from Johannesburg 🇿🇦. I just made Aliyah to Netanya to be closer to my grandchildren. The process was overwhelming at times, especially choosing the right health plan and figuring out Ulpan options at my age. Happy to answer questions for anyone considering this later in life.”
đź’ˇ Good to Know:

  • Older Olim may be eligible for supplementary health support, discounts, and sometimes adjusted Ulpan schedules.
  • There are several retirement-friendly cities and English-speaking communities that offer strong support systems.
  • Even if you’re not fluent in Hebrew, it’s never too late to learn — and you’ll be surprised how many people are ready to help.

You’re never too old to come home.
Whether you’re making Aliyah solo, with a spouse, or to be near family — your journey is valid, valuable, and inspiring.

We’re here for you.
