Hello everyone. Philip here, 34, from Birmingham. My partner Lior is Israeli — born in Tel Aviv, grew up there, came to the UK for his MBA and stayed for seven years. We have been together for four years and are making the move back to Israel together.
I am not Jewish — grew up vaguely Church of England, now entirely secular. I qualify as Lior's partner for aliyah purposes. We are not married yet — same-sex marriage is not available in Israel through civil means and we are navigating what our options are for legal recognition as a couple in Israel. This is one of the more complex aspects of our situation.
I work in architecture and design. I am beginning to research how my UK RIBA qualifications translate in Israel — the Association of Architects in Israel has a recognition process that looks involved.
We are going to Tel Aviv — Florentin or Jaffa area — which is the obvious choice for us. My Hebrew is zero but I am committed to ulpan from day one.
Would love to connect with other non-Jewish partners of Israelis and with any LGBTQ+ olim who have navigated the legal recognition question.
