Shalom everyone. Avi here, 64, from Boston, Massachusetts. Retired — I spent my career as a periodontist. My wife Miriam and I have been planning retirement aliyah for fifteen years. Our youngest child got married six months ago. We have officially run out of reasons to wait.
At 64 my considerations are different from the younger olim I see on this forum. Healthcare continuity is my primary concern — I have managed hypertension and early-stage Type 2 diabetes, both well controlled, and I need to ensure seamless transfer of care to an Israeli kupat holim with good internal medicine and specialist access. I have read the kupat holim comparison post carefully and am leaning toward Maccabi based on the specialist access reputation.
Financial planning has occupied us heavily — I draw Social Security, have a 401k in drawdown and have significant investment assets. The ten-year tax exemption is relevant and meaningful for us. We have engaged a US-Israeli accountant already.
Targeting Netanya — the large Anglo community, the beach and the climate all appeal to two Bostonians who are done with cold winters. NBN application is underway.
Would love to hear from olim who made aliyah at retirement age with managed medical conditions — the healthcare transition specifically.
